Most Filipinos pay SSS contributions for decades without ever calculating what they will actually receive upon retirement. In 2026, with the MSC ceiling now at ₱35,000 and the contribution rate at its final 15% peak, this is the perfect time to understand your projected pension — and take steps to maximize it.
To qualify for the monthly retirement pension, you must meet the following requirements:
If you have fewer than 120 monthly contributions but have reached age 65, you are entitled to a lump sum (not a monthly pension), equal to all your contributions plus your employer's share.
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| AMSC (Average Monthly Salary Credit) | Average of your five highest monthly salary credits in the last 10 years before retirement |
| CYS (Credited Years of Service) | Total number of years with at least one SSS contribution per year |
| MSC (Monthly Salary Credit) | The credited salary amount based on your contribution bracket (max ₱35,000 in 2026) |
| Formula | Computation |
|---|---|
| Formula 1 | ₱300 + (20% × AMSC) + (2% × AMSC × CYS over 10) |
| Formula 2 | 40% × AMSC |
| Formula 3 (Minimum) | ₱1,200 (if CYS is 10–19 years) or ₱2,400 (if CYS is 20+ years) |
SSS automatically uses whichever formula produces the highest monthly pension for you.
| Formula | Computation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Formula 1 | ₱300 + (20% × ₱25,000) + (2% × ₱25,000 × 20) | ₱15,300 |
| Formula 2 | 40% × ₱25,000 | ₱10,000 |
| Formula 3 | Minimum ₱2,400 (20+ CYS) | ₱2,400 |
| Pension Used | Formula 1 (Highest) | ₱15,300/month |
On top of your base pension, you receive an additional 10% dependents' pension for each legitimate, legally adopted, or illegitimate minor child, up to a maximum of five children, starting from the youngest. Using the example above, a pensioner with 3 minor children would receive: ₱15,300 + (3 × ₱1,530) = ₱19,890/month.
For higher-income earners, the increase of the MSC ceiling to ₱35,000 in 2026 means contributions are now computed on a larger base. While this means higher monthly deductions now, it directly increases your AMSC — and thus your eventual pension. For someone at the ₱35,000 MSC for their final 10 years, the impact on their monthly pension under Formula 2 alone would be:
40% × ₱35,000 = ₱14,000/month (vs. ₱12,000 under the old ₱30,000 cap)
