SSS BENEFITS 2026

SSS Disability Benefit 2026: Partial vs Total, How to Claim

The SSS Disability Benefit is one of the most underutilized protections in the Philippine social security system. Many members do not know they are entitled to a monthly pension or lump-sum payment when they suffer a work-related or non-work-related disability. In 2026, with the increased contribution ceiling, the benefit amounts have also improved. This guide covers everything from eligibility to filing.

1. Types of Disability Covered

SSS distinguishes between two types of disability:

Partial Permanent Disability

A loss or reduction of the use of a body part that does not fully prevent the member from engaging in any gainful occupation. Examples include loss of a finger, partial loss of vision in one eye, or partial hearing loss. The benefit is paid as a lump sum.

Total Permanent Disability

A complete loss of ability to engage in any gainful occupation due to conditions such as complete blindness, complete deafness, loss of two limbs, or permanent and total mental incapacity. The benefit is paid as a monthly pension for life.

2. Eligibility Requirements (2026)

3. How the Monthly Disability Pension Is Computed

For total permanent disability, the monthly pension follows the same formula as the SSS retirement pension:

Formula OptionComputation
Option 1₱300 + 20% of AMSC + 2% of AMSC × (CYS – 10)
Option 240% of AMSC
Option 3 (Minimum)₱1,000/month (if with less than 10 CYS); ₱1,200 (10-19 CYS); ₱2,400 (20+ CYS)

AMSC = Average Monthly Salary Credit; CYS = Credited Years of Service

The pension used is whichever of the three options gives the highest amount.

4. Partial Disability — Lump Sum Schedule

For partial disability, the lump sum is based on a schedule that assigns a number of months' worth of your pension to specific body parts:

Body Part LostEquivalent Months of Pension
One thumb10 months
One index finger8 months
One big toe6 months
One hand39 months
One arm50 months
One foot31 months
One leg46 months
Hearing (one ear)10 months
Sight (one eye)25 months

5. Dependents' Pension (Total Disability Only)

A pensioner with total permanent disability is also entitled to a 10% dependents' pension for each dependent minor child (up to a maximum of five), starting from the youngest.

6. How to File Your Disability Benefit Claim

  1. Secure a medical certificate from a licensed physician documenting the nature and degree of disability.
  2. Fill out the SSS Disability Claim Application Form (DDR-1).
  3. Submit all documents to the nearest SSS branch or through the My.SSS portal (for digital filing).
  4. SSS will conduct a medical evaluation to determine the type and degree of disability.
  5. Approval typically takes 30–60 business days after complete document submission.
Key Reminder: The disability benefit is separate from the SSS Sickness Benefit (which covers temporary inability to work). If you are temporarily unable to work due to illness or injury for at least 4 days, file for sickness benefit first, and only convert to disability once your condition is deemed permanent.
